All news →BIS Extends Suspension of the "Affiliates Rule" Through January 10, 2027The Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry and Security released a final rule on November 5 extending the suspension of its Affiliates Rule through January 10, 2027, with Federal Register publication set for November 9. The rule, first issued in September 2025, extends Entity List, Military End-User List and certain sanctions-based license requirements to foreign companies owned 50 percent or more by listed parties. Its suspension had been due to lapse on November 10, 2026 under the United States and China trade truce. Baker McKenzie notes the rule is suspended rather than withdrawn, so exporters should keep building ownership-based screening ahead of possible reinstatement in January.
